"Arizona's ONLY Wild and Scenic River" Discover Arizona's only Federally designated "Wild and Scenic" River- the Verde River. Carving a spectacular canyon painted by nature in multiple hues of golds, reds and browns, it drops at an average rate of 20 feet per mile. Available Mid January - Mid April (Mid March Dry Years)
Cottonwoods, Sycamores and Sage grow from the banks, while the sandy beaches beckon you for breaks. Paddle an inflatable kayak or relax in a raft while you are submersed in wilderness fun. Often spotted wildlife includes javelina, black bears, golden eagles, great blue herons, otters, deer and incredible, varied bird life.
The well channeled Verde River allows us to operate inflatable kayak trips during the winter season when base flows keep a steady 150-200 cubic feet per second of water flow in the river. These flows offer lots of fun, class II and III white water thrills in the form of a twisting waterway full of chutes and drops interspersed with calm floating. No experience is needed to operate these free flowing and stable 1 person boats, also known as "duckies". Taking on the Verde river in an inflatable kayak, one on one, under the watchful eye of our instructor/guide is an adventurous and rewarding way to experience this beautiful Arizona wilderness waterway. During wet years we can experience high-water conditions during late February and March at which times we operate conventional rafting trips in 14 foot self bailing rafts. However, this water flow is not reliable and can be difficult to catch, making the inflatable kayak the optimal way to experience the magic of the Verde River Canyon.

What to Bring On Overnight and Multiday Trips - In addition to the items above bring:
Rentals (Reserve in Advance)
Class II and III Rivers Wear quick drying clothes like nylon shorts and a swimsuit with shoes that can get wet. Old tennis shoes, Tevas or sandals with a strap around the heel (no thongs). In spring and on high water trips, wool, fleece or any synthetic garment is recommended. These materials stay warm when wet, unlike cotton which stays the temperature of the water. We have wetsuits, fleece and wetsuit boots available for rental in all sizes from small children through large adults (up to 300+ pounds).
Class IV and V Rivers: Wetsuits and wetsuit boots are required and wool, fleece and synthetic jackets and socks are recommended. We recommend you arrive at the trip’s designated meeting location with a swimsuit under your clothes. You can then slide the wetsuit over your swimsuit. Overnight trips require camping equipment (tent, 10 degree sleeping bag, pad or cot if desired – high quality rentals available) and personal gear (warm camp clothes, extra fleece jacket, rain gear, bug spray, toiletries, extra socks, warm jacket, hiking boots/shoes, warm hat, gloves…). Don’t forget your waterproof camera, eye glass straps, water bottle, sun glasses, sunscreen, lip balm and a sun hat as well as your sense of humor & adventure!
